Im helping a friend to find out some info about the dial and crown on this Seamaster. We have to know if this dial is original or redailed? And if the crown is original? The ref is 2582-4 and serial is 11575400 Cal 351 Tony ...

The dial's refinished, Tony, and the seconds hand . . .

Ok, thanks for the info. I was thinking the same about the dial but I didnt know about the second hand. Tony

It's worth restoring as that two-tone case type is uncommon . . .

. . . and chances are fair you'll find an original dial marketed on eBay with movement and hands attached. 😉

Ok, We have to see what he want to do.

. . . of a ref 2582 he owned several years ago. Note the 'scientific' dial. My sense is the ref 2582 under review was originally similar to this example, possibly with a blued sweep seconds hand. The dial was degraded, so an enterprising watchmaker found ...

Thanks!

after consulting my omega library best thing is to strip the dial from the movement and see what's written on the back of the brass dial 1 the dial with arabic numerals 12-2-4-6-8-10 is not seamaster as all the ones i can find have 12-3-6-9 if arabic nume...

Blued sweep seconds were issued on Omega chronometers both manually wound . . .

. . . and self-winding, and occasionally on models with unrated movements but fitted with 'scientific' dials. This 'scientific' Norman Morris issue belongs to my nephew . . . . . . and is powered by a cal 28.10 RA movement. So yes, the blued sweep seconds...

Here's another 'scientific', this one a ref 2446 . . .

. . . previously posted on this forum by the owner. If Tony's friend's example has an original blued seconds hand, my sense is the original dial would've been a 'scientific'. It seems ref 2582 may have started off branded solely as 'Omega', then later mor...

I now have an uncomfortable feeling that Tony's dial started off life . . .

. . . in a ref 2635. [photo credit: eBay] Tony's ref 2582 could have a dial implanted from a ref 2635 that was refinished to reflect ref 2635 appearance and also match the typical Seamaster crown. In other words, a hodgepodge. And best avoided. Art ...
