Oh I see

I think that in this case the watchmaker sent it with a precise instructions from me not to change anything.
I also feel that Omega has become more aware of their heritage in the past few years.

My First Speedy had to be brown
By: jlc.thomsen : September 28th, 2021-16:35
Just picked it up today. Fell for that brown dial almost a year ago and bought it straight. It has been a really long wait and it came back from Switzerland in perfect conditions. No service center had the guts to risk breaking the hands as they sat reall...
WOW...

You hear all these horror stories about how sending your vintage Speedmaster back to Omega is the last thing you want to do. However, from what I can see, they did a great sympathetic restoration on your beautiful tropical dial Speedy
Jees didn’t know about that.

My vintage watchmaker, which I trust a lot and who happens also to be certified Omega workshop just didn’t want to take the risk with the hands and we ended sending it to Omega. What experience have you had?

Very Valid observation...

I think Omega realised the vintage market continues to grow and they have been missing out on lot of business. Although sending your vintage watch, especially a Speedmaster, is expensive and time consuming to send back to Beine what better place to have i...
The cost was OK since it was included in the price in the first place
By: jlc.thomsen : September 29th, 2021-17:39
When I saw the watch I loved the dial but observed some irregularities in the movement and sub dials as I was testing it. I agreed to pay the price and put an 80% deposit if he would make it undergo a service, pressure test and lubrication at the watchmak...
That's the sign of a very savvy buyer ;-)
By: MikiJ : September 29th, 2021-18:34
Might you know what the total costs, including shipping were besides very expensive? It wouldn't surprise me if the total restoration costs exceeded the 20% balance.
No idea of the actual cost.
By: jlc.thomsen : September 29th, 2021-18:58
However I could hear a little dissonance when he thanked me for the balance payment transfer. I asked him directly if the cost had been to high and he reassured me that he was fine with it no matter what since he only wanted to sell me a fully functional ...
The result of two Gentlemen watch guys doing business together :-)
By: MikiJ : September 29th, 2021-21:13
Unfortunately us Gentlemen are getting harder to find FWIW: There's a highly recommended Omega watch repair shop in Seattle, WA. I inquired as to service costs for my '66 Speedy with CB case. They got back to me and told me that they strictly follow the O...

Your approval means much more than you think. You helped me a lot on this journey of catches.
Thanks. I am thinking Paris in November I hope
By: jlc.thomsen : September 29th, 2021-17:56
I hate to say it but I was in Paris 10 days ago but it was a very quick run in and out and only 1 night. My home life has changed a little and I can only make very short chirurgical travels😩, which is actually super exhausting. I need to find a solution f...

Gorgeous '69! . . .
By: Dr No : September 28th, 2021-20:23
. . . and kudos to Omega service for not 'correcting' hands, dial, or bezel. It seems the case was refinished - is that correct? Did they replace crown and/or pushers? Passed up an excellent '74 a while back, then popped for an Ed White earlier this year....
Thanks Dr. No for the kind words
By: jlc.thomsen : September 29th, 2021-17:01
I had no idea about these white gold Ed Whites. No they didn’t change pushers and crown. I asked them not to. They did some gentle polishing. I’m not such a purist when it comes to polishing if it’s done correctly and not very often. Is you picture of the...
Remarkable dial and restoration.
By: ArmisT : September 28th, 2021-23:21
Is everything in that dial patinated, or did Omega offer brown dial Speedys in the past?
Thank you. Oh yes. This is what go me going.
By: jlc.thomsen : October 6th, 2021-06:32
