Omega

My trusty speedmaster 40mm auto

 

Not a common watch around here as I can't remember seeing many. I like the size at 40mm, and the anthracite dial. This is a longer term piece, just crossed 11 years with it. I added the omega speedmaster rubber strap (as it came on cordura strap). It was running fine, but at 10 years old and since this get worn in water, I wanted to have full service done. I had them keep the hands, pushers, crown (forgot to say this on my JLC- fail, got a new crown) and bezel- it's indicated on the sales receipt. This watch along with my Rado gets most of my work wrist time (so most of the wrist time!). The wear and scratches don't bother me. I really only worry about that when it is gouges, then I try to laser weld (successfully done on my IWC after my daughter dropped it😬) Interesting- out of maybe 6 watches I've sent to manufacturer for service, this one came back with some of the parts. Appears to be seals, mainspring barrel and some chrono parts?

This is a killer dial…I would be all over this if they hadn’t included a date function.

As far as servicing, I didn’t realize you have to be so specific with regard to each original part you don’t want replaced. I would have thought they would naturally keep original parts unless absolutely necessary to change out. Good lesson here, thanks. ...

Ps: Regarding service: Ido not care so much on what they do - the service team will know. Also because here in Switzerland at least service cost is standardized. Not sure what the prices are now, but a standard service for a Chronograph at Omega was, 5 ye... 

Yea I was a little perturbed when I a jlc they changed the crown

It is slightly different. I don't really care as there isn't a value issue, just feels different. The knurling and logo. I believe service was $925 plus tax and fees and came to 1k.

Wanted to know since you wear it in water, if you do pressure tests every year or don’t bother and wear your piece in the sea since 10 years.

I would probably go with the recommendations

But in 11 years I wore it in the ocean a couple of times (mostly my submariner here), but in the pool very often. No issues. I had never gotten pressure test.
