Omega

My first serious watch as a student - excellent review!

I bought it at a vintage watch shop in Zurich (the owner of which was later shot dead, but this is unrelated ;-)) with a ghastly grey plastic strap.

I did two attempts on correcting that: First, I went to a restaurer of fine vintage watches (my emphasis, you'll see in a second why) who also was the only representative in Zurich for the Atelier du Bracelet Parisienne, still today a famous place for finest straps. When I entered the workshop, the owner greeted me with 'a watch with such a movement is not worthy entering my shop!' (he did not object to selling new Chronoswiss watches, though... - I was taken aback but did not draw the correct consequences - I ordered despite this!

The second attempt was to get an original Omega bracelet for the Mark II. I could not source any, but a famous Omega retailer in Zurich came to rescue: he adpated, free of charge for me, an original contemporary Omega Speedmaster bracelet - with a wonderful look. I could not make out the difference to an original one.

I eventually sold the watch to finance an IWC handwound with a Cal. 89. Another fine peice!

Cheers and thanks for reviving all these memories,
Magnus
