Memomatic - my first Omega purchase
Hi All
As some of you might be aware I have a weakness for alarm watches and have a small number of them. I think it comes from liking the the idea of a repeater, but the dawning realisation I could never afford one - but there are other watches that make a noise & are much more accessible - Alarms. Since that damascene moment I've be rather star struck by alarm watches.
The first was a blue dialed Poljot and it has progressed or gone down hill from there depending on your opinion.
Over the last few years I've been increasingly aware of Memomatics - automatic alarms by Omega. But never really done much about it. Then this year I started looking a bit more & noticing them here on this site and starting to casually look for them, with no real intention of getting one.
Recently I had a holiday & decided on a trip to London - no intention to get anything. However, I was aware of a sop that had a couple in that I might go and have a look at to get a better idea of what they were like in the flesh.
This is where I went wrong, or possibly dropped lucky.
Asked about Memomatics in the shop and they said they had one just in that had box and papers & was just back from a service with Omega. This as other will have had this is Kriptonite for some of us here. So it had the outer box case & original warranty card (no instruction leaflet though). It was also just back from the service centre with invoice to prove it.
I hadn't expected this as it was on site on day before to check they still had one in stock. I was expecting to look at one with nit isle scratched into the case back.
As is probably almost predictable once they mentioned the newly in stock version I wanted to see it. Was pretty much pristine and unmarked & it was one of those moments that felt right. Still needed to think about it - as didn't want to just pick it up as was a bit of a head rush & regret it later.
Went off for a coffee and surf of the web to gauge prices and conditions & have a bit of a think away from temptation.
However, in reality all was lost as soon as I'd tried it on earlier. The others - even though one was the same model didn't call to me as much & the premium for box , papers & initialled case back was ok. So after a bit more of a ponder , returned & tried for a bit of wriggle room (you don't get if don't ask) but no go - but was still happy with price.
I've now had it for just over a month & its been worn every day - which to me is a good sign I made the right decision.
So now for a few shots

Watch with case & papers

On its own

With other icons

The whole of the gang

Obligatory wrist shoy
Think for me the deciding factors were its overall condition, that it's one of the iconic alarm watches and that it had just had a full service by Omega, so that helped me relax a little too!
Cheers
JML
Ps it's not my first Omega I inherited one which I still have & like. It is however the first one I've bought for myself
