i came across this phrase whilst looking at a highly respected fleabay dealer, its a new one on me, but i think its brilliantly written to confuse. 'Brilliant original dial restored in silver using original applied silver baton hour markers and new Swiss ... 

Unpolished, new old stock, mint, first owner, and so on... Typical literature from the Black Bay. Best, Nicolas...  

yep, they are all so funny, but bad news for new collectors. one off buyers, who just want 1 nice watch probably wont care if the dial is redone as long as it looks very nice, but those starting out in this dangerously addictive business would be gutted i...

G99 Years ago, there were no books or forums (with extremely helpful members, eager to help) to guide a new-comer to this interesting and challenging pastime, so to get duped into believing something is totally factory-original was common and excusable. N... 

Since I started with this addiction I went several times on many traps. After some of those "near mint, fresh from the factory, NOS" traps, I learned to hold myself on any deal before doing a lot of research. This is applicable to vintage and not so vinta... 

i saw a mint marine master the other day and cant believe its original, but the dial cant be redone due to the complicated nature of the dial. its gotta be rare or fake. best G

Graham, Next time, just try to slide a fingernail between the crystal and the case. On the original the finish is, like every Swiss watch that I know, smooth. On the fake, there is no finish at all. Just checked the "famous auction site" and there are som... 

i must find some real dealers with shops so i can actually get to touch and feel the watches i buy. i buy everything online so dont get that chance hence my reason for buying what i know. i'm looking for another theme to run alongside my 1964 theme. i was... 

and that's why it is valued so highly. All collectors should carry out research before buying but even with knowledge, it's still possible to trip up. I think that the worst crime of online sellers is the 'poor photograph' - sometimes it is just impossibl...  

no cynicism there Andrew. in this day and age there is no excuse for a poor picture unless you use my skills on my phone. Nilo has the same one and produces marvellous pics, but i cant even get them in focus . having said that a number of people have used...  

i fully agree with you harrisans, but a lot of people wanting just one watch to start them off to see if they like the idea dont want to pay a fortune for reference books and often dont know we are here. of course googling will probably find us, but do pe... 

...as those trying to misrepresent their watches. I picked up a minty Seamaster Cosmic 2000 a few years ago that had been described as a redial, and the photos showed it to be very good. When I received it, close inspection showed that the dial was origin... 

quite right. i hope i've only been duped once with my connie, but it was so good its possible even the seller didnt know and i'm now very happy with it. best G

I have made the same experience... Sometimes the watches are presented so badly and when you run a risk and buy (even with poor pictures in the description) it may turn out perfectly... I had luck several times when running a risk, but I have also "burnt"...
