my old mate who's now 60 bought one new in 1969. he knew nothing about watches, but had heard Omega were good and liked the look of it. it was the auto with date on the strap. the watch was great until a log fell on his wrist a few years later. when he pulled his wrist out the glass was scratched and the crown had pulled off the stem, but it still worked. he put it in the box over 20 years ago and hasnt worn it since. if you pick it up and move it a bit it starts ticking straight away. a great looking watch with a great movement, but the corfam straps were and still are utter crap. whoever thought of a strap that was only 3mm wide on each side and held down with a thin metal ring ?
he's considered getting it repaired and serviced now i have a very cheap omega man, but he has a big problem because of that strap design. he's had a stroke so has lost the use of his left arm, this makes it difficult to tie up any strap so he uses an expandable bracelet. thats the problem. he cant put the flexi on this watch and cant afford an OEM bracelet so whats the point of him repairing it.
a great looking watch with a very flawed strap design and expensive bracelet option.
