For an only watch for what i presume

Would be for a non-watch(?) person, a good candidate would be the FOIS (first Omega in space).

Comes with strap, not a bracelet. Alpha hands. No crown guard which I think makes it dressier (yet retaining that pro / sport vibe) versus the usual speedy. It’s sapphire as well. I’d say it’s probably the most versatile moonwatch variant out there given your requirements. If you want brand new, there’s definitely some wiggle room price-wise. Value retention wise, depending on acquisition cost, should be able to hold its own over, say, a decade of ownership. I was able to sell my regular speedy which I had for over a 15 year period for close to double. Not exactly an assurance or yardstick of value performance but it’s a data point to consider nonetheless. Plus I think it’s one of the easier watch models to move out there relative to other speedy variants.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the newbie question... I don’t know too much about omega; just that there many iterations of the speedmaster. I like sapphire, but I presume many of you would suggest hesalite? My friend does not want a bracelet and prefer strap. He definitely w...

At first, I thought this would be an easy set of questions to answer. After mulling it over, though . . .

. . . there really are no simple answers due to the multitude of Speedmaster iterations. And then there's the question of intrinsic value. As much as I'd like to say your friend could go to an authorized dealer (or Omega boutique), specify what he wants a...

thanks Art....ok well when you just consider new apparently omega gives only two choices:

1) hesalite crystal with closed caseback OR 2) sapphire crystal with transparent caseback and And the bracelet only costs $100 more? With Delrin brake or metal brake I guess I haven’t been on the omega website in awhile; as when I last checked there were ...

Your friend should be able to find a ref 3573.50 in the $3K - $4K range . . .

. . . in decent shape. This reference was in production for a dozen years or so. An earlier example should be less costly, probably saving enough to cover servicing thru an independent watchmaker. Here's a pic I took ten years ago of a hesalite Speedy, pr...
