Hi All! Yesterday I collected a vintage U-N watch from its service at my recently found local market town repairer. This repairer working alone in a small retail shop only deals with watch and clock repairs but also buys, restores and sells several watches for his "passing trade". I admit I should like to buy all his stock, especially the vintage, rare gold Seamaster with 12 applied gilt alpha indices he showed me as his recent acquisition ready for sale. I remarked that most if not all of his stock for sale have dials in superb condition, especially for their ages. He answered that where necessary he has the dials restored by a specialist, who is extremely good although particularly expensive. He then showed me a dial just received back for a customer's own watch - like new.
I have always understood that the dials of vintage watches represent up to 40% of their value and should always be left unrestored etc unless absolutely wrecked. The watch repair's vintage stock for sale are all desirable, in wonderful condition and reasonably priced. So I ask here from the experts what is the view about dial restorations and should I leave buying any of the repairer's vintage stock for others to buy?
Two examples from the repairer's stock for sale. The above said Seamaster is not yet on his website.
Best

Passing a watch shop a few years ago on holiday I popped in saw the the pictured 2383-5 loved the look and bought it on impulse. I love the look of the watch and really enjoy wearing it, but the small niggle I have is that I’m pretty sure the dial is re d...
