You are right to compare these 2 whose origins come from the Fifties, indeed.

The 6610:

The CK 2914

The E 168

The Three Kings of the era, in terms of adventures, scientific experiences, travels...

Now, it is true that your modern Omega is closer to the roots than your modern Rolex is, but still, the spirit is here.

Enjoy, mon ami.

Comparing the RM60 vs the 214270..

 By: Echi : December 22nd, 2020-21:47
I’ve watched vids and read articles comparing the two. On the surface, it’s easy to fall into the sweet trap of pitting one against the other when upon closer inspection, they’re quite 2 different watches. They’re both from the 50s. Ok. But not really. Th...

How they wear..

This is very interesting. They both wear well but in different ways. 1) Weight on the wrist The Omega fits snugly around the wrist thanks to its push adjust bracelet. The Rolex fits not as snugly but still quite comfortable as the watch head thickness mak...

Technical performance..

I’d almost dare say the Omega has the better tech although I am basing it solely on these 2 specimens and is not representative of their lines. Up until now, I’ve had pretty good luck with Rolex right off the box. Yes, my Explorer, issued only this Decemb...

Thanks for the comparison. Really good and based on true experience, not theoretical

I have 114270 just because I find the proportion is better on my small wrist. Also tried the RM60 few times but think it too shiny, especially the bracelet. And mostly because of the long lugs that almost 49 mm for a 38 mm watch, is just does not feels ri...

Totally understand. I prefer the 114270 proportions wise to be honest but the 39 wears better on my wrist. As for the RM, the lugs make the watch wear big but as with all watches, how it wears depends on ones wrist..

As for calibers, I’m almost inclined to believe that Omega probably have better QA although I’ve yet to read up on problems with the 8800. Over time though, the differences are minute, I think. With proper maintenance and regulation, it almost doesn’t mat...

I owned the Railmaster for a while but found the same shortcomings

I like so much about it, I *wanted* to love it. But the lug length and the overall shininess both just didn't feel right. The lug length problem was masked a bit if you kept it on the bracelet... but the clasp was a real letdown--felt as big under my wris...

These are both beautiful references

I have considered both a couple of years ago and finally opted for an OP39 black dial, which I found just a tiny bit dressier. The OP has been great, but lume is disappointing. I am surprised that you are let down by the Explorer's lume too

When it comes to watches reflecting our personas, it's gotta be . . .
