Blasts from our past: rare Omegas . . .

Apr 09, 2021,09:33 AM

. . . posted in the first years of this forum when Bill Sohne was moderating.  His presence attracted vintage collectors from all over the world.

First up: an extremely rare ref 14326 cal 354 chronometer with hooded lugs cased in pink gold . . .

. . . submitted by Erich [log-in: mac_omega] over ten years ago.  The crown probably isn't correct, but try to find another example of this reference on the 'net.  Erich still posts here occasionally; his knowledge and experience of Golden Age Omega chronometers is unsurpassed.

Here's another you don't see every day: a ref 2129 . . .

. . . posted well over ten years ago by the son of the original owner, who was a pilot in the RAF during the Second World War. This extremely rare Omega Weems was his service issue watch. Art ...

If only it could talk about its time in the RAF during the Second World War. Thanks for reminding us of this one Art.

My pleasure, Cap. Uncle Bernard served in the RAF . . .

[Uncle Bernard at left, Mom center, Dad right / photo taken 2010] . . . towards the end of the War in a Lancaster. Even though he was in uniform for only a short period towards the end, he was immensely proud of his service in the RAF. Art ...

Love the photo Art ...

Do you know what position Uncle Bernard had on the Lancaster ?

He wasn't a pilot (or co-pilot), and I don't think he was a navigator or bombardier, either. That leaves gunner positions . . .

 By: Dr No : April 9th, 2021-11:44
. . . which would be most likely anyways due to his small stature. Uncle B was maybe 5' 5", which would've made him a prime candidate for a gun turret, no? He was stationed in East Africa towards the end of the war, but came down with a tropical disease a...

Definitely sounds like 'Tail-end Charlie' ...

Note the claimed “Kill” ...

Just got off the phone with Brigitte, Uncle Bernard's daughter . . .

 By: Dr No : April 10th, 2021-14:39
. . . who said he was a navigator. So not Tail Gunner Charlie, but Navigator Charlie. The story gets even better, though: I also spoke with Ian, Brigitte's other half and Bernard's son-in-law. Apparently, Bernard accompanied Ian and Brigitte to a wedding ...

Great photo!

And he can be!

Here's a photo of Uncle Bernard's other half, Aunt Elizabeth . . .

Weems?

 By: amanico : April 9th, 2021-10:48

Yup. Rare reference, highly desirable . . .

 By: Dr No : April 9th, 2021-11:45
. . . and practically unobtainable.

Are you referring to this Seamaster, Nicolas? . . .

 By: Dr No : April 12th, 2021-12:57
. . . this one is white gold, and also belongs to Erich. Art ...

. . . and to think it's not fitted . . .

 By: Dr No : April 13th, 2021-08:21
. . . with a chronometer - either cal 333 or 343 - movement. That would make it the most desirable Omega of them all. Art

Agreed!

 By: amanico : April 13th, 2021-08:34

Grandiose.

 By: amanico : April 9th, 2021-10:48

This one . . .

 By: Dr No : April 9th, 2021-11:51
. . . is grander still. White gold ref 14319, 1952, produced a few years earlier than Erich's ref 14326. What I wouldn't give to have either in my collection! ...

Wow 🤩

One more from our files, originally posted eleven years ago . . .

 By: Dr No : April 10th, 2021-17:18
. . . by François. Rose gold ref OJ 2365 (14 kt). Replacement crown, but otherwise original. Don't see many in rose gold . . . yellow by far the most common iteration, then steel, then rose. Rarest of all would be a CO 2365 - steel case with 14 kt rose go...

Fun thread Art

And good to see some family history as well. I have not seen two of those Omega's before either. Kev

I'm pretty sure you've seen my CK 2364 . . .

 By: Dr No : April 10th, 2021-21:31
. . . but the first two posted in the thread are extremely rare. I've never seen either in the metal. Best, Art

That dial is super interesting 👍

The applied Romans chronometer? I've seen several examples . . .

 By: Dr No : April 11th, 2021-10:23
. . . but not in a rose gold ref 2365. I think this is the only one in my experience, and that's going back well over ten years. Art
