Officine Panerai

When 2 Bases Meet

It's still and always be fascinating how with Panerai, less is more...

Throughout different eras, the base are always more desirable..

They were missing a 47mm Luminor Base model, until SIHH 2011..

Panerai announced the 372, with a new style "transitional" case, and instantly it became a new favorite..

I had a chance to shoot 2 base model Luminor, that I'm sure is almost every Paneristi's favorite..

The PreVendome Logo

And PAM372

Both are beautiful in their own ways...

The PreV Logo has a very nice warmth and balance on the dial

While the 372 has a nice touch of Vintage look, so that everyone can have a taste of the highly coveted vintage Panerai

There's no doubt that these 2 are the favorites amongst Paneristi

Now let's see a bit more detail on the 372...

It's such a good looking watch, isn't it??

What I love the most is the large, vintage style, engraved fonts

Many concerned about the hands being short

To me, I honestly don't mind the length.. But I would love it even more if they make the hands in yellow gold. It would look much spectacular with yellow gold hands, like on the 232

The Plexi is much flatter than I thought, gives it a nice readability, less distortion and more practical for everyday wear

And the movement...

Certainly not the most interesting movement design I've ever seen...

But Panerai is supposed to be a tool watch... Why need a fancily decorated movement...

I don't know much about watch movements... But so far I think that this seems to be a very reliable movement...

I love the way it wind smoothly... I love that it has 3 days power reserve... And I love the adjustment of the hour hands - very handy when traveling to different timezones..

Nice attempt for personalization touch with OP logo on the base plate

I've been enjoying the company of the 372 a lot of the times ever since I got it.. Although I have to admit, it's lacking soul, compared to the PreV Logo and other historic model in the past

And I'm feeling very lucky to be able to own 2 of the very best bases in different eras...

Best,

Sam
