I think we are talking about different issues here. The 318 was a judgment error on behalf of Panerai. They took the low road and they have made an honorable gesture to correct it. Really the only gesture they could.
The other matter is the notion of premium which I guest is another word for price. Unless you mean those who plan to buy and resale right away at a higher price to take advantage of a mismatch in supply and demand. This type of action is frowned upon by most but the market forces are what they are. Back to the 372 it has the in-house manufacture movement which is proudly displayed through a crystal case back so no one will doubt what powers this watch. As for the frenzy it is a pure design issue that you are either versed in the history and follow the models watches that have come and gone from Panerai or you have succumbed to the look . And yes this is the entry level movement from the in-house line and the price is set accordingly. If you are someone who knows or has heard of the "fiddy" it may be too late for you as you are already addicted to the brand. There are enough fans out there that this model even though it is a regular production model will continue to have high demand for a long while.
I think the best thing is to go with what appeals to you and don't worry about the hype. But the watch on your wrist and see if your smile equals the smile on the watch.
