Surely you remember your first postings here 3 years ago? You have 77 posts now but in the first year only three posts. You were welcomed as a newbie and were encouraged enough to return a year later and steadily increasing your participation. Thank you for that.
You admitted to feeling like a school boy with the wrong questions. But you came back because most of this Panerai community made you welcomed.

I realise that Panerai is a big Man-ly brand with overwhelmingly macho owners.

nothing is discussed more often than questions of taste :-)! Tastes are not altogether arbitrary in general, at least most gourmets would consider those restaurants more interesting listed in the Guide Michelin or prefer wines with a lot of Parker points....

posts that sound natural, as though they have been written by real people - this sounds like it was wriiten by an advertising agency copywriter. ( I should know, I used to be one, and still teach copywriting) But perhaps that's what Anu does for a living?...

I assume your friend or partner was a Panerai collector, from previous postings. It is not the first brand for ladies to 'go to'; like IWC before. With these two Mens' brands, their ladies' models are few or non-existent. Regards Melvyn
