That's not the point of my post.

The point is they already had entry level models in the 000 and 005 (the X3 or X1 in your car analogy) . They replaced them with "inferior" product (at least specs-wise) but charge for them at the same price as the 000 and 005. So it would be like BMW eliminating the X3 and X1 models and replacing them with a Yugo and Trabant but charging the same prices.  The Yugo and Trabant cost them less to "make" if BMW actually made them in this fantasy analogy so their costs would decrease but they would still be making as much money whenever they sold one to a poor sap who didn't know the difference between a Trabant and a X1.  Just like most non-watch geeks wouldn't know the differences between the PAM 1000 vs. the PAM 000.

My theory is that OP had to cut manufacturing costs on their product as their sales were dropping compared to the bubble years.

Panerai's New Entry Level Watches

 By: reintitan : April 13th, 2017-15:48
Panerai's entry level watches in the (Bettarini) Luminor cases (PAM 1000, 1005, 630, 660, 632, 631) are about the same price of the watches they replaced (PAM 000 and PAM 005) but have some "downgraded" case features. First, the bezel and mid-case of thes...

Well, I suggest improving their customer service first

 By: Poky : April 13th, 2017-16:00
They should at least make sure their existing customers enjoy a well deserved aftersales service, loyalty to a brand is everything these days. After encountering one of the poorest customer service around, I decided to sell the one Panerai I had and I hav...

Watch went for a service and came back damaged

 By: Poky : April 14th, 2017-01:37
They would not accept responsibility for it, even my AD confirmed the damage caused by them. When I rang Panerai the customer service manager was rude and abrupt and her words were "it is what it is, we are not going to do anything about this". I was shoc...

That must've been tough..

I'm sorry to hear that, man.....

I did the same with....Breguet and Blancpain (not buying again)

 By: sergio : April 14th, 2017-01:25
After sending a 3137 (Breguet) for service, waiting for 6 months, paying an INSANE repair bill, 2 weeks later the SAME problem happened again. That meant another 6 months...etc. Worse yet was Blancpain, which kept a Leman 100hours so long, I actually FORG...

For personal reasons the 3137 is still with me....

the Blancpain went out the window (together with a Flyback) long ago. Truth be told, I didn't even like the Blancpains that much to start with. I also "disposed" of a couple of Breguets, after the fiasco

+1 good answer

that can't afford the "real" ones, it's an old practice and a direct consequence of consumerism. You can't afford an X5? I'll downgrade it to X3. The X3 is still beyond your spending possibilities? Worry not, I'll build the X1 "just for you". I personally...

Double edged sword

 By: Poky : April 14th, 2017-01:47
Everyone likes exclusivity but that comes at a price. If you don't want to pay the price, well, then it is not exclusive anymore because a lot more people are going to have it too. X5 is a good example but some high end watch brands have already been doin...

Inferior for whom?

 By: sergio : April 14th, 2017-17:05
occasionally, inside fora, the people "in-the-know" take it upon themselves to approve or ripudiate certain products. They do this based on their idea of a perfect speciman (for each maison) and personal desiderata. Yet, 90% of the "turists" out there (I ...

Inferior for all (objectively)

 By: reintitan : April 15th, 2017-02:21
based on the specs I enumerated in my original post. 100 m WR vs 300 m WR. Which one is the lesser (inferior) to the other? 200 hp engine vs. 70 hp engine. Which one is the lesser (inferior) to the other. You really can't acknowledge the differences? LOL ...

The differences...

don't have to be acknowledged by me. They are..there..for everybody to see (including me). I'll leave it there. Ciao

If I may...

Your second point about the "snap case back" is not necessarily true. It is a driven case back in the same way that a bezel is ordinarily driven into any watch. Has anyone in the world ever complained about a bezel being driven into the case? Point being,...
