Officine Panerai

repair bill

One of the "arms" that holds the strap to the watch casing split off when the watch dropped. The $16,000 covers the factory making a new casing. This is the infuriating part of the process--the case is still made today as a PAM 318 (vs 317), but because my watch is 4 years old the factory is insisting to remanufacture my 317 case instead of substituting a 318 case (which has the same dimensions). This is where the rip-off is happening: because my choices are A) scrap the watch or B) accept the insane repair bill, the factory knows they have me in a corner.

It's really insulting to have spent so much money on a watch and then to basically have to re-buy it when the watch breaks. I've googled this problem and it looks like there have been many ceramic Panerais that have this same issue. I'm wondering if Panerai has a manufacturing problem with ceramic.

I'm thinking about hiring an attorney in Switzerland to explore the issue in detail. Given the sums of money involved if this same thing happened to many Panerai owners, it could be an interesting case for a contingency lawyer.
