I did get to see this watch in Hong Kong a little while back, to me the first thing I would do is change the strap (too thick as you note, and for me that is a bigger factor given that 44mm is a stretch for my wrist these days). In that context the sewn in buckle is a bit of a drawback, but I also like the idea of it being sewn in too!
