You have not yet shared any portions of your long anticipated conversation(s) with Ms Renier. Since it has been roughly one year since she has been CEO, I wonder, did she play any role in the watches unveiled this past week at SIHH2019? Clearly, the development process takes over one year, and the two new movements of the moon phase and perpetual calendar, with longer power reserve, pre-dated her ascension. Moreover, the showstopper piece of the gyrotourbillon/minute repeater also had to have been under development before her takeover.
To wit, the executive decision for SIHH2019 to focus on these dials in which to present the new movements, and the new super complication watch, was not hers.
To me, it remains unknown whether she has a vision for the company, or if she is the face of the company, cheerleader, etc etc, with someone else doing the real decision making. Tim Cook is conducting the business of Apple, but he is not driving the technologic creativity let alone design of Apple products today.
This may be the reality of many companies, so I am not trying to criticize her alone.
In summary, how long will it take to put new movements in all the moon phase and perpetual calendar models? And when will new/updated movements be put in the simpler models?
And, apart from again demonstrating it's ability to make unique crazy and amazing pieces (gyro-3 etc), I was no more excited by JLC this year than I was last year with regard to its lack of introduction of under US$10,000.00 novel watches for those of us who, apart from window shopping as entertainment on occasion, realistically will never purchase a $30000.00 to $800,000.00 watch. And yes, I confess I was unmoved ultimately by the 2018 Polaris collection.
What does Ms Renier bring to us next year? This will be more informative, in my opinion. Alas, I am doubtful there will be a "simple" manual wind central seconds movement. I hope I am proved wrong.
With each passing year, my decision to buy the 2014 steel Tribute to Geophysic appears better and better
Best, M
