Saturday Fantasies: Jaeger Lecoultre Master Ultra Thin 1907 White Gold Enamel Versus Master Ultra Thin Jubilée 39 platinum.
Mar 20, 2021,09:44 AM
As you probably know, I am still thinking about adding a Master Ultra Thin in my collection.
The MUT 34 steel black, platinum blue grey are in my scope. But I am fatally attracted by to others, as well, these 1907 White Gold Enamel or Jubilée Platinum.
The white gold has the advantage of its enamel grand feu dial even if the inconvenience- a relative one- is that the dial being thicker, its case is one millimeter higher ( 5, 05 mm ).
The Jubilée has an important advantage, for me, its platinum case. I am a big fan of platinum watches, and owning one which is also an utlra thin is something very rewarding. Her the case is 4, 05 mm high.
The only issue is that the dial doesn't have the depth nor the warmth of enamel.
Both are 39 mm " big ", which is a maximum for me, for an utlra thin watch. Both house the Cal 849, which is excellent. You will notice that the hands are different. Those leaf shaped of the white gold enamel are much more my taste, I must confess.
Both have a solid case back, which is fine, as the Cal 849, even if beautiful, is very small for such a case.
Now the last important point is the difference in price. The Jubilée platinum was a bargain, with a retail around 13, 500 ( yes yo read well ) Euros, while over 30, 000 Euros, the white gold enamel is not what I could call a bargain.
But since when do we buy bargain?
Hence the confusion which invades me... Because of its dial and hands, the white gold is my favorite by a very small margin.
But the platinum has its " noblesse " which I am mad about.
Fantasies and dilemmas... Or how to spend a parisian lockdown with class...
All the best.
