Be careful, I owned both the black and silver dial versions My experience is that yes, it is a little rough at the beginning but smooth once the crown is engaged Maybe check timekeeping before sending it to service And enjoy!

(The black dial version would help too, I'm afraid!)

I find there’s a bit more resistance compared to the reverso 8 day movements and much more than the 889 movement. It’s not the highest resistance winding watch that I have (for example, the IWC 52010 is a lot stiffer). One confounding factor is that I’ve ... 

I own an 8-day Reverso and it winds much more easily. BUT, as you say, it has a bigger crown that's much more easily grasped. I will probably just keep enjoying it as it is and get a service down the road.

No surprises on the back of mine.

Admittedly, you TOTALLY made the right choice. Love it.

In fact, I've already commented (to others) about how gracious you've been through this process, considering that I pulled back from buying one of *your* watches!
