By scooping up “vintage” pieces JLC is providing all the things people want (certification, provenance and box etc) as well as an attempt to control supply of “pieces” and perhaps an attempt to set prices…supply etc. it costs JLC almost nothing to do this. Rolex is also examining this idea. Perhaps it goes like this CEO says buy up as many vintage pieces as you can ($1200.00 or whatever) we will clean them up and add when possible original replacement parts and jack up the price. Even if we sell only a few for top dollar we have paid for our original investment AND removed a lot of old pieces from the market therefor limiting supply…a scheme worthy of Blofeld himself.
