A couple of years ago, I showed you a Reverso featuring Rama, an i ncarnation of the Hindu divinity Vishnu, probably ordered in 50 pieces in 1932 by the Maharaja of Kapurthala. Here is another " Indian Reverso " so called " Beauty of India ", which was bo...

Thanks for your post Nico.

Those are certainly intriguing watches, with wonderful artistry and history, but the particular subject matters are not to my taste. As a matter of interest, out of all of the decorated Reversos you have seen, which is your favourite? All the best, Jon

Hmmmmm, I don't know...

A recent article gave some background!

Hi Nico, Stumbled across this article a few days ago. It dives into the back stories of these rare Reversos. Claus

Thank you for posting that very interesting article.

I enjoyed reading it although every time I read about the explanation of the reason Reversos were created i.e. to protect the glass during polo matches, I can’t help but wonder why those British Officers didn’t simply remove their watches during a match. ...

;)

amanico, thanks for yet one more illuminating thread

And Claus, thanks for the article. Most here probably know the connection to polo but count me among those who didn’t know the India angle Kev, my question was always how a precious metal watch could even survive a hit from a polo mallet at all, not just ...

My pleasure. I have always enjoyed and even revered these historical engraved Reversos

Even got one of my own, walking the talk. This one was issued in connection with JLC opening their Boutique on Madison Avenue, New York back in 2013. Claus ...

Wow, these are beautiful!

It would be nice to commission something like this from JLC.

Why not? I think they do custom engraving, this is just a little more then that!

Not on my radar, but a fun thought anyway!

Lots to like in these...

These two demonstrate how impactful tiny portaiture can be.

Imagine someone dear, masterfully rendered in miniature, private, to be revealed only by choice. Fantastic! Not too crazy about the two tone. Thanks for sharing these special pieces.

Yes, why not, indeed.

Both are great examples of beautiful artwork. it is amazing when you realize that just in one year after launch Reverso was already desirable watch.

Just wonder if they have had a waiting list already and if yes what else Maharaja had to order to jump at the front of the line

True, yes. But till when?

Amen!

The 2 tones just brings out the colour of the dial and watch imo.

Beautiful watches

Thanks for the post. Love the dial of the Rama. Timeless. On another point, my grandfather used to have a Favre Lueba. Not sure what happened to it. J.

My pleasure; JMan.
