I am not surprised by this lack of imagination/ambition and basic color change...
We have previously discussed the lack of long-term vision since the killing of Geophysic line, near abandonment of Duometre, lack of tightness of the antiquated Master Control line with its dozens of stale models and dated power reserves (across the entire catalog), and innumerable iterations of dial colors and case size changes of the Reverso line, not to mention occasional odd enamel entries ("this is not a watch" (sorry, Magritte)). The now not so new Polaris line has been underwhelming at best. Again, in her only public interview to date, Mme Renier said her vision for the brand is haute horology (!), whereas the bread and butter of the brand is the sub $20,000/sub 15K euro market, which has been terribly ignored.
So it is not surprising at all to see this Only Watch entry following the Reverso model of recent years.
The real point is, now that Mme Renier has quietly been CEO for over 18 months, it is imperative that we see at least one completely overhauled focused model line at SIHH2020, roughly her two year tenure mark. If we don't, but one says give her say 5 years, will the brand still be relevant by then? And this of course returns us to the real question. Is Mme Renier 1) actually independent and a visionary or 2) a puppet of Mr Rupert, doing his bidding, because if she is not a puppet, how long will he tolerate the foundering of the brand under her control? If Mr Rupert cares about anything, it is about profit...
