IWC

Three years ago I tried on arguably the most spectacular IWC watch for a generation but due to other priorities, I had to give the watch a miss. Fast forward three years later and while browsing the 'dreaded' chrono24 website, I came across a brand new IW...  

The wire lugs allow me to wear this 45mm watch. if not for the lugs, it would merely be a watch that I would have admired from afar!

The movement fills the case. That beautiful dial. Love the digital display, and those numerals (art deco?) Really look nice.

For me it is IWC at its best!

you keep some watches just a few months ? Do tell I recently managed to sell some watches in exchange for new ones and it felt good somehow!

but when we have to live with it, the novelty wears out and the once enticing dial or case or movement just fails to get the adrenalin flowing. And for me, if I do not love a watch in my collection, it will have to make way for something else. The casualt... 

I did let go pieces only after a longer while (2 years or even 6). Just around 1 year ago some retailers started to take back watches for new ones and that is very convenient. Selling online is just too much hassle.

it is seldom easy to let any watch go but it does help when one is not super well healed

Guilty as charged! I am definitely in love with this watch. I always tell people I know to never buy a watch they like, only buy a watch they love. Of course, if one is in love with a watch then it would be game over!

One might even mistake the dial of the watch to be grand feu enamel but I will settle for the thick layers of lacquer that seems to change colour in the light. As usual when one loves a watch, they will justify their purchase in every way possible!

When that particular watch came out, my friend, you weren't the only one that was impressed by it. I love a jumping hour, but with this, you get the jumping minutes too which is uber-cool! I've had the opportunity to see one on an owner's wrist, and exami... 

and I must also thank you for helping make this purchase possible by buying the Glashutte Original from me! I have a policy that when one watch arrives, another must leave (so, so tough to administer!). May you enjoy your watch as much as I am enjoying mi...

I must be losing my marbles as I have also expressed my interest in the new Girard Perregaux Casquette - digitial and quartz!!

You actually bided in the Only Watch auction?! You are the only person I know who ever has! Anyway, I am in good company if you too are keen in the Casquette!

Gave up very early! So can't say I was anywhere close to winning it! The room had some very wealthy and powerful people in it. The winner of the FP Journe also won the AP!

it is the participation that matters not the winning although in this case, that would have been nice.

And I miss the people I used to work with at that charity and the ingenious solutions we'd come up with.

Giving back to society is one of the few things that one cannot overdo! Perhaps one day you can resume your charitable work.

Maybe the time wasn't right for you back then for this beautiful watch. Now the time is obviously ripe and you can enjoy one of the most beautiful watches from IWC. I almost feel your joy. And I appreciate your very nice background story. Wear it in best ... 

I don't usually like numbers on a watch dial but I shall make an exception here I am actually pleasantly surprised at what good time the watch is keeping and how it reliably changes the hour in tandem with the minutes. I know, I know, it is meant to work ... 

Very wise and full of (hopefully not personal) experience. LOLL My personal experience is that their watches are very robust and reliable. But perhaps I was just lucky with my pieces (2 Da Vincis, 1 Portugieser MR and 2 Pilots, all except the Pilot Chrono... 

I have always liked their watches except that they make them larger and thicker than most other brands but the Pallweber with its large movement and 12 layers of lacquer I suppose had little choice but to be placed in a large case,

It certainly does attract a bit of attention so far. Hopefully any conversation will not involve my having to explain how the watch works!!

I saw one in person a few years ago, and the owner let me try it on. I have to say it was one of the more surprising watches, it was far more impressive in person and wore surprisingly well. Another example of it being hard to judge watches by press photo... 

Well, it has taken me only three years and the watch fits my dainty wrist thanks to the small wire lugs which allow the strap to just curve downwards. This is the perfect example where although the case diameter is important, it is the lugs that matter mo... 

Then on the wrist, my chicken wrist, it was surprisingly good. Enjoy it.

I know of much smaller IWC watches that do not fit me due to the lugs.

And definitely an IWC that would rank at the top for the brand. Looking forward to seeing it in the metal soon. Also completely get your statements on living with the watches you love and not just like. Some watches, once taken possession of, just doesn't... 

You will be trying it on soon I am sure! You and I move watches more than others but I would like to think that at the end of the day, we have exactly what we love!
