IWC Jubilee - any experience?

Jun 02, 2022,10:39 AM

Hello,
I am considering a ref 5441 IWC Portuguese Jubilee from 1993 to wear regularly.
Having read some comment about its lack of shock absorption mechanism, I wanted to check amongst members if anyone had experience wearing the piece on a regular basis and whether it is more fragile than others.
This is one of the watches that started my passion nearly 30 years ago, so I feel I could own one at some point

I thought that movement did have shock protection.

I have owned one for three years and have had no issues.

I wear mine from time to time and it always brings a smile to my face. I don't do anything that could be considered vigorous with it but it has kept time quite consistently on the wrist; about +5 to +10 seconds a day. I'm sure that could be improved with ...

one of the greats from the house of Schaffhausen

Should I get one, I will definitely do a pilgrimage at the factory (after a bicycle or motorbike ride around the lake of Constanz)

A great idea.

I love mine and wear it with pride . . .

The movement is very cool, too. One caveat for daily wear (besides low water resistance) is the plexiglass crystal. It is one of the things that gives the piece charm, but you must be careful to avoid scratching it.

Plexi is not an issue for me - I am used to these!

thanks for your feedback

C. 9828 is based on c. 98, which I think (?) was derived from c. 74.

I was wrong up above referring to c. 92. C. 74 had no shock protection. It was the movement used in the original Portugieser of the 1930s. When IWC ran out of the 74 it switched to c. 98.

this picture shows a really appetising movement

can you elaborate on what you mean by 'pantographed'?
