This makes perfect sense. I find it easier to see the "mechanical" connection between the balance wheels in Armin Strom's design.
Perhaps it adds "mystery" to the complication to have an ethereal, intangible (acoustic) connection between the balance wheels / resonators, but personally I appreciate it much better when I understand it.
