Quick thoughts

Thanks for asking for my opinion, MrTime!
I will wait until my "wearing impressions" post (maybe in a week or two) to set out my views on this watch in greater detail, but I can tell you already that it certainly fulfills its intent just as well as any independent watch of which I am aware.
For me, a key word in design is "coherence" -- does the object in question have elements that work together harmoniously? In the case of the One Hertz, I think that coherence is a real strong point. Every element of the watch -- from case and lug shape to dial design to the steel movement bridges to the rubber lining of the strap -- makes sense from the perspective of creating a watch that is masculine, modern, and robust.
A second key concept for me is "integrity" -- is the object an honest effort that reflects the principles and creative essence of its maker(s)? Again, I have to praise the One Hertz here -- as Bart and Tim took me through their creative process, I really enjoyed seeing the deep thought that went into their technical and aesthetic design choices -- and the watch seems to me an almost perfect embodiment of the personalities and passions of the Gronefeld brothers.
As you mention, leading independent watches have very different characteristics, so it is not (in my view) very useful to compare the characteristics of the One Hertz to those of the Antiqua or Simplicity, for instance. However, in my view it is just as excellent in delivering on its promise as these other celebrated watches are in delivering on theirs.
I hope that these admittedly subjective thoughts are useful to you! By the time that I post my "wearing impressions" review I may have found something that really annoys me about this watch
but so far it seems very unlikely indeed...
Best,
Gary
