====================================

The Peter Speake-Marin gathering in Los Angeles was held at the Westside restaurant Chez Mimi last Friday. The event started later than scheduled due to the horrific traffic caused by an accident earlier that afternoon; I don't know the details but I'm told it involved a crane and the 405 freeway, and the 405 came out on the short end of the stick. Most of us were considerably delayed to our favored destination...

There were new Purist's as well as veterans. John and Mandy Lones . . .

and Steve and Maria Schechter . . .

. . . were, I believe, first-timers. Old hands abounded, too, like Jon who arrived with ladyfriend Jennifer.

Old pal David P came without his other half, Ynessa, much to our chagrin.

This was Roger's third event with us . . . he's a largish fellow, but prefers circumspect watches. I believe he was wearing an F-P J CS . . . .

The luckiest attendees had to be Guido and Christine Germano - they live only four blocks away, and were spared the nightmarish traffic.

It was a pleasure to share a table with Bill and Nathalie. Bill is an avid collector, and Nathalie has caught the bug, too . . .

. . . as evidenced by her wrist-candy.

Meehna Goldsmith has been with us before, too, but tonight she was most topical, sporting her one and only watch, a Speake-Marin Serpentine Calendar.

We gathered this evening to welcome Peter Speake-Marin . . .

. . . to Southern California, along with his Stateside representative Tim Jackson.

Roger . . .

. . . Steve H, and the Woo brothers Ming and Ed . . .

. . . listen raptly as Peter tells us the story of how he became an independent watchmaker.
