No disrespect meant, Dr. C -- just too tired to be serious at the moment!
It's late at night, so I'll leave the deep thinking to others -- although Bernard's criteria certainly got me thinking. As the owner of two of PSM's pieces, I'm obviously a big fan -- on the bases of (to me) physical beauty and internal consistency of concept (a hefty, "bomb-proof" watch with looks to match). If, for the moment, I hold that strong preference aside, and in the happy world in which price were no object, I'd have to say:
1. Voutilainen -- Masterpiece 6
2. Halter -- Contemporaine
3. Vyskocil -- V-30/45-01-A
Choices 1 and 3 reflect my general leanings toward being a "movement snob." On Vianney's watch, I just loved that particular item (in WG) the moment I saw it (it really does need to be seen in person), and found him a great guy, as well. Volker, to me, epitomizes the Purist ideal -- doing something interesting and original, with an obsession for a specific definition of quality (anyone who publishes timing charts to make his point of view clear is OK with me). And the decimal repeater -- such an obvious, yet brilliant innovation! And the piece itself is gorgeous.
Somewhere in my future are a Moser Perpetual 1, one of Marco Lang's watches (maybe Johannes' mono-pusher?), a Van der Klaauw Planetarium, and another Parmigiani or two (not sure they qualify for this poll) -- but now I'm cheating even more!
I'm not usually interested in these sorts of polls, but will be very interested to read others' choices and rationales.
Best,
Gary G
