...selectons are a fascinating insight into the kudos afforded to certain independents ahead of others by those 'in the know'. Some selections seem to me to be quite surprising, but that is a function of the delightful conjunction of variety and personal opinion. In this sense, however, it might have been useful to take up Dr Cheong's suggestion of establishing criteria, or benchmarks, so that the rationale of some selections might have been more obvious. For example, I am very impressed by the Volker Vyskocil vote: I would be thrilled if one or other of those who have cast that vote could explain for the benefit of those less 'in the know' (myself primarily!) the significance of the innovation or design which warrants that (clearly deserved) status.
