I had the same sorts of feelings you did when this was announced--that it threatened genuine perfection! I have a longstanding Explorer-ish feeling that the simple ideal of a watch is smallish diameter, black dial, arabic numerals, white metal. And this just seemed like it might be the best version of that I could name. So happy to see it's working out to be that!
P.S. I had the same concerns you did about the case finish looking plasticky and the dial numerals looking dull. I was hoping both those were true so that I could stop thinking about this watch--alas!

Beautiful dial and case size….
…but I don’t find their execution of the regulator and the bridge appealing. Not because it is poorly finished, but because it is visually jarring unless for a good reason.

But it reminds me of a military field watch. Overall, it’s just the complete package - the case size, the dial execution, the hands, the manual wound movement, heck even the strap combo - I can’t find anything to complain about. Okay, perhaps the price!😬 ...
