Kari Voutilainen: Observatoire vs. Vingt-8

The KV Observatoire is a highly regarded watch which uses a remarkable Peseur based movement.  It is known for its high accuracy and beautiful design.  The new Vingt-8 is a brand new in-house movement with an escapement that delivers exceptional efficiency.

For someone who is new to independents, how would you compare the two?  The case, dial design and finish will probably be very much alike, so it really comes down to the movement itself.  Which movement do you think is more significant from a horological standpoint?  And from a collectibility perspective?  I know the Observatoire has probably been discontinued, but if the decision comes down to it, then I wouldn't mind finding one in the secondary market.  And I have no problem in waiting for a year or two for the new Vingt-8 either.

Thanks and regards,
Ken
