I think that depends on your context

For me, I would tend to agree (three hands), given the same terms (ie the context in which I mostly wear my watch, though that might be a different context ;p), although I haven't decided whether I prefer sweep or sub-seconds. Occasionally, I feel like the context demands something a little more complicated (since the context in which I mostly wear my watch can also change), in which case I think a perpetual, if executed well, is more beautiful.
In more formal contexts, I prefer a two-hander (in which I would wear a watch even though some would say that one ought not be worn). The latest VC ultra-thin 55 is just about spot on for these situations. And to stick with the proposition, more beautiful.
I suppose "beauty" for me depends on the context in which it is viewed, as well as in the eye of the beholder, as well as both - and perhaps other things.
Simplicity discussion
I am looking for some understanding of the appeal of this watch. I have read several posts and articles about the watch. I just do not understand the great appeal or attract. Perhaps someone can explain some detail or viewpoint that I am missing.

It's probably the subject of confidentiality obligations, but I can imagine what good copy it would be to be able to say, "we make the movement for the SImplicity".
Clarification
Dufour makes the movement from unfinished components that are manufactured to order by different suppliers. As he's totally unknown outside a tiny sub-clique of the high-end watch world the advertising value is zilch, imho nick

Thanks for all of the clarification. I do see this watch as worth having, but not at this time given other watches in that price range. Perhpas I will be able to own one or see one, someday.

Somehow, after years of looking at various watch designs, the 3 hand one (small secs) seems close to perfection. Any thing else seems added on, & actually takes away from the overall beauty, IMHO. fnk

You are not alone.
But it is a watch for the people who want a 3 handed watch..period. And a good one. I would personally go for a Grand Seiko, because it has Dufour there on the "team"..seriously. And it is 10% of the price.
