Here are some more photos

This was the first version of the dial he fabricated.  I didn't like the proportions of the dial - the center disc was too large and the baton hour markers too short.  Although the GMT disc on this version was hand carved I felt the machine finished version that I went with better suited the contemporary style of the watch.

Almost there with this version.  I wanted more contrast between the white gold and black enamel on the pm side of the GMT disc so Kari refabricated.

Here's the refabricated GMT disc - more of the black enamel visible in this version - just the hands to go at this stage.

Here's a sight you usually don't see - you can see the mechanism to operate the GMT disc (advances by pushing in the crown)

Kari sent me these photos as the piece was nearing completion

.... and  finally we were there

.... and safely delivered!

Voutilainen GMT-6

 By: Timeout : August 2nd, 2020-12:13
I came across this particular dial design a while back. Although I’m always impressed by the bright high contrast colors in Kari Voutilainen’s dials I feared that I may tire of something too bright in time. Once I let Kari know that the original had alrea...

Huge congrats! At the end is the final product totally the same as the first one which was sold by the Collected Man? What does the letter ‘K’ mean on the caseback? Kari? Yours, Adam

The dial is almost identical to the original - the moon on the GMT disc on mine is slightly larger. Not sure what the K stands for - I would have guessed the same as you! Here is the first dial that was fabricated. Didn't care for the proportions or the l...

One of the best Kari dials that I have seen - well done!

Sophisticated and subtle at the same time, you are right that with the capabilities that Kari has it is easy to go a bit over the top as we have seen in many examples.

Many thanks for your inspiration and attention to detail. Kari did not want to “copy and past” being sensitive to the uniqueness of the original designer.

.... I do hope that I was correct in assuming that the original watch had been resold.

Yes you can’t keep them all unfortunately!

Thanks for letting me know. Kari was most concerned not to produce a “carbon copy” since you had come up with the original design. That’s why the first dial and GMT disc were so different.

Once I let him know that the watch was no longer in the hands of the original designer he was happy to replicate. Thanks again for a great design!

and you are totally right, proportions were off in the first version of the dial...

I thought so - but interestingly these are the standard proportions in most of his dials. When you add in the chapter ring and case it balances it out better.

 By: Timeout : August 3rd, 2020-04:53
This means that the dial on my watch has different proportions to most of his dials. You can see this in the first and second dial photos - where the black guilloche meets the number 15 on the small seconds register. Most of the dials have the center guil...

The great thing with Kari is that the majority of his watches are unique, if not all... So much talk about rarity, limited editions, piece unique etc. in the watch world.

 By: Watchcph : August 5th, 2020-07:52
With Kari you get the whole package... and in my humble opinion he gives you some of the best bang for the buck when you combine the buzzwords like renowned brand/dial and case maker, "handmade", rarity, finishing, general build quality, special movement ...

I could not agree more. Value is a subjective, relative term undoubtedly. The reality is that he could double the prices that he charges for his work and it would not be outrageous. My experience in his willingness to change and swap out the work already
