Hi CL,
Congratulation on your new aquisition! It is truly superb.
Hi also to you all happy owners of Voutilainen's Observatoire!
I have carried out a little census of all the Observatoires that I know of, and I can see at least as many as 23 different watches. Kari Voutilainen is, for sure, the only man who can say how many of Observatoires have been produced. Gary, maybe you look Kari in the eyes and ask him the question next time you see him, for there seem to be quite a lot of speculation on the number of them. An Observatoire is , off course, an Observatoire. But many, to our great delight, come in different guises, whether it be with a change of metal, a change or changes pertaining to the design of the hands, numerals, cabochons, motif of the dial, hands... On the movement side also, there appears to be different types of balance cocks, finish of bridges, signature types, etc.. Those many variations demontrate Voutilainens design skills and knowlegde of all the functional and aesthetic aspects of his watches. This variation could be a very interesting subject for another post with pictures a l'appui.
But this is not the subject of my post. This very variation of design and the abundance of fantastic photographers, who are regular on this forum, make me dream of a small illustrated book on Voutilainen's Observatoires. This could be done in different ways, by taking advantage of what could be a Get Together, for example in Motiers or through separate, private appointments with a chosen photographer... Anyone sharing my dream? A penny for your thoughts...
Bon week-end!
