Scars, dents, and all kind of scratches are the memories of an active life for vintage and old watches. This is especially, if not exclusively, valid for sport watches, since dress watches look not as good depending on the kind and extent of scratches. The Internet is full of vintage dive watches showing their marks, from more or less authentic discoloration on a dial or a bezel to the deepest dents on bevels. Those blemishes may bring us to the mindboggling adventures of the watch's owners, across seas infested with dangerous creatures and long journeys under blazing suns. As many of you know very well, nothing could be further from the truth. So often, in fact, those scratches are the result of ridiculous events and situations from everyday life. Here’s a simple collection of possible causes ordered from most frequent to least:
- The self-moving furniture. All kind of book shelves, tables, cupboards, better if made from iron or other metals. Even better, when rusty or Hammerite metal painted,
- Invisible concrete columns or posts,
- Family car doors,
- House doors,
- Balcony or garden doors,
- Crazy lift doors,
- All kind of walls,
- The mighty tarmac,
- Natural rocks,
- Any other harder stuff, even watches,
- ...
- Sailing boat's booms,
- The boat anchor rope,
- The old Mercury engine cowl,
- The anti-shark cage,
- The whale shark skin,
- The white shark bite,
- ...
Feel free to add any other cause at your discretion.
Best,
Simone
P.S. I would love to add the very unlikely hug from a mermaid!
This is from today's wrong turn directly into a metal bookshelf!
