What’s with the swimming pools and watches?

It was a beautiful day today, and Monday is like Sunday Or Saturday (during these times), so we went to a friend’s pool for a swim.

Last fall we did this same thing at another backyard pool, and I came home with a nice ultra-thin Gubelin watch which is now part of my collection.
He said “It was my Grandfather’s - I don’t want it. Do you?”

Today we just went to swim and play with the master champion retriever.

We watched the hot air balloons, ate sandwiches and sausages, drank some Daou Cabernet, and I was given a Tissot.

No story other than “it was my grandfather’s, would you like to take it?” What could I say but “Are you sure? If so, yes.”

Not too old - in fact it looks New Old Stock except for one slight scratch on the plastic crystal. Open, empty dial makes it look bigger than the 37mm it measures. Nice Arabic numerals and no date window. It runs too... but no strap. Hmmm, that is quickly remedied.

Why me? I guess they know I can’t say no to a new sheep to join my flock.

Seriously no need to go on a holiday with the life you are leading.

Looks like a perfect day. Very nice clean Tissot. antimagnetic even!

Lovely little vintage watch and looks great on that strap.

I much prefer the old Tissot logo to the modern one. Regards Kev.

That Tissot looks really great and with those lugs.

And it looks quite old because it lacks a shock absorber at the balance jewel. Remarkable condition - very wearable.

I've checked out the history - the watch is from 1950

My pal and I were born in the same month in the summer of 1951. His family was leaving Russia under duress, and stopped enroute briefly in Germany for him to be born, and to "convert" some of their possessions into cash or easily-carried goods. One of the...
