Size Journey

25 years ago I was very happy with 38 to 40mm. Then Panerai, AP, Breitling and a few others conspired to
do a "Emporer's New Clothes" number on what I (and obviously many others) felt was an appropriate sized watch.
I let go of some mighty nice 40mm pieces (and a gorgeous 38mm red dialed Chronoswiss Regulator). Blue Max, UN Marine annual calendar big date,
UN Dual Time (1st gen), even my Hublot Super B and IWC Portugieser eventually were sold, "too small". I still like big watches but eventually realized that a 50mm U-boat might be
fun but started to feel like clown wear! Also as I aged I realized that the only way I could maintain bulk was to eat too many cheeseburgers (wrong type of mass!). Spending all day at the gym
to see how close I could get to being Arnold or Sly wasn't producing the same results.
Now the collection is in reverse gear regarding size. Pam 372, Breitliing Super Avenger, 5004 and 5002 Big Pilots, 45.5mm Hammerhead... gone. Now hunting down many of those "let gos".
Have repurchased the UN Marine Annual Calendar big date, the blue dial 1st gen Dual Time (both 40mm), The two tone Super B. Might go after another Blue Max, silver/blue Portugieser...
gee... good luck finding a red dial Chronoswiss Regulator! Still like "big" but big is now smaller. 39-41 for standard. 42-44mm for "big". Depending on case-dial architecture sometimes slightly larger works
but that now is rare.
Picking three favorite brands out of that list is tricky... depends on criteria (hello Rolex!). So out of that list I'd go with PP, GS and Omega.
