My brother has given me his white gold GP. I already have the steel version. He said I can do what I like with the white gold one. I’m undecided if I I should keep the gold one and sell the steel or the other way round. Looks wise, they are very similar. ...

It can be easily scratched, but the Steel Nautilus bezel is a scratch magnet, too, as well as the AP Royal Oak in steel, so it is a tie, here. I don't have issues with white gold watches. I prefer steel or platinum, but white gold is ok for me. Sometimes,...  

I expect that it cannot be polished or buffed so easily when it has scratches. In my case (literally) it’s not Rhodium plated. Dial exactly the same. At MSRP at the time, the white gold was variant was close to tripple the price of the steel. White gold m... 

plated so it makes is even more difficult to decide. It’s basically heavier and more precious than steel. Maybe it was made for people with too much money 💰 😝

I treat all my watches like they are gold anyway ☺️

it has some sentimental value (unless you hate your brother ;-) and the value difference you will get is negligible.

What sheen are you referring to? If anything, the white gold is duller compared to the stainless steel. “Specialness” … The white gold is indeed more rare. And much more expensive. But I’m leaving out these two points for now. I hoping to get more feedbac...

They are exactly the same except for the metal of the case and pin buckle. Both full set as well. So I’m trying to decide based on some logic. Maybe I should post both for sale and just see which one sells first. Leave it up to fate 🤣 I’ll post some pics ... 

Heft is the only “advantage” to white gold that I can see as steel looks so similar. Some may see heft as a negative? Have you ever owned a white gold watch? I am specifically asking about white gold … I have my own rose gold watches. 🤝

Personally, I wouldn't own the same exact watch in both materials. It would depend on the style of timepiece for me, and in this particular instance, I would rather have the GP in steel than white gold. Just my subjective feeling 🙂🙏. Cheers, Filip

What is it about white gold over steel do you like (I realize the reverso is more dressy). But white gold is so similar to steel and more expensive, and yet you would choose white gold over steel. I’m keen to understand why. Thanks

it is not so similar that you cannot tell the difference after carefully examining the surfaces....

Is the reverso rhodium plated? What are the differences you see (vs steel) after you examine the surface of the white gold?

I may be forgetting, or may be mistaken in this regard.... The difference in appearance is the obvious tinge of yellow undertones, a warmer glow, and a softness of the metal to the touch relative to steel.... It's relatively easy to spot up-close, and alm...

girard perregaux i think use 904l-which rolex-omega-seiko etc also use. keep the s/s one. selling the gold one will increase due to the price of the 18k gold. may have gained $500 by the time i finishing writing this. haha

But it’s interesting that I see many solid gold pieces across brands Preowned that have not increased in price. AP etc. flat for solid gold. I would have expected the prices to increase. As far as I know, GP used 904L stainless for their Laureato chronogr... 

then buy a titanium watch of your choice problem solved.

I don’t like titanium watches for some reason. Anyway, the GP 4940 does not come in titanium and I really the model.
