Horological Meandering

Thousand Apologies..

for the late reply. I just knocked off from my day at the hotel, and today i chose to wear my discrete reverso.

Many of you might have seen the ROO i've worn 2 weeks ago, posted on AP. My mentor told me i could have it as long as i like because he has too many pieces to rotate. I did not regret it when i returned it to him after a week. When i did so, I was stepping out of my fantasy, into my reality, because this watch was too incongruent with where I spend most of my "time", which is at work. A Japanese guest i've become close friends with, knows I wear a real ROO, but he told me, he wouldn't believe that any hotelier could afford an ROO, and only in engaging in WIS talk with me that he could really tell i know as much about watches than him, a scrimp every cent to afford my hobby.

My reality comprises of a lot of "humble pie" and "dirty demeaning work", that shaped how i view the world, and i've come to believe that what you think and feel, shapes how the world behaves around you. Scenario 1) I wear a silent reverso, that doesn't look too attractive but it a true masterpiece. I unintentionally allow people to see it on me. They'd think nice watch, and research on it..hmm..this lad has taste and culture. Scenario 2) (which happened to me) I wear a  quite flashy sub to work, and some tycoon comes up wearing an Explorer (which happened), and he thinks..who does this guy think he is? He treats me badly. Scenario 3) I wear the ROO, and people see it, and come to think I bought a replica, and therefore i'm a fake wannabe, although i'm wearing the real thing.

Therefore, what i'm saying that a watch should reflect your lifestyle and values...wear something over-valued for your position, and it'll be useless and counter-productive to your daily happiness. Wear something that embodies you, and people will take a second glance in awe and respect, and it value-adds your quality of life. Therefore, a watch purchase should be made in consideration to the lifestyle of the person, for a person who values money prudently, and takes into consideration "wrist-time".
