There is more than meets the eye...

A very apropos question you ask...
True, originally the NOMOS caliber alpha started from the base of an ETA 7001, but this is long, long ago... In the meantime, NOMOS has advance and integrated so much of movement-essential techniques and capabilities that they are no longer reliant on ETA:
- complete reworking/rededigning of the movement
- bridges and plates are made in-house
- in-house escapement (NOMOS Schwingsystem, developed in cooperation with the Technical University Dresden)
- Triovis regulation system
- reworked winding system
- much higher finishing (note bridges, but particularly the screws: while Junghans uses chemically blued screws (you can identify that by the blanc slot), NOMOS treats its screws in the traditional heat-blueing technique)
All that is done in-house. I am also pretty sure that this is a stark contrast to Junghans which outsources its movement (to Soprod ) guess).
What I find particularly striking is that NOMOS managed to introduce their in-house Schwingsystem without a price increase - a remarkable feat!
My personal bottom line is that given the price of the NOMOS (particularly the Tangente), it offers much more for the € than the Junghans: you get a watch from a real watchmaker vs. a watch from a mere assembler of outsourced parts.
Cheers,
Magnus
