The educational importance of the right sources
Jul 16, 2022,21:07 PM
I've found that the key to having a deep knowledge of anything resides in the sources of information you decide to learn from.
I personally always refer to a select group of people to inform myself:
On YouTube the obvious answer is Tim Mosso: we all know how great he is, but I'd also like to mention Marc André Deschoux from Watches TV, Steve Hallock from TickTocking and the Horological Society Of New York. To me these four channels are the ones that provide the most interesting and complete information on horology.
When it comes to websites my first choice is, obviously, this forum. Any time I open it up I learn something new or I get to see some cool and rare timepieces. Other honorable mentions are Quill & Pad and Watches by SJX.
How do you guys stay up to date? Is there any channel or website that I am missing?

That's unfortunate

You can clearly see when a website decides to turn to a place to paste affiliate links and make money instead of giving out good information. It's a shame...

When all are read, you end up at the one and only The Naked Watchmaker. CH24 for the rest, and WPS for entertainment and sharing the passion.
A lot of great ones out there

SJX and The Naked Watchmaker instantly spring to mind. For all the commercialism, there are great pieces on Hodinkee every once in a while, and some good ones in their archives. Small blogs can also be a great resource. One of my favorites: adventuresinam...
Thank you for the feedback.

What prompted my question was a thread that was locked earlier today, citing terms of conduct. I asked aboutl linking to dealer sites since it also falls under ToC rules, and sites engaged in selling activity are pretty clearly commercial sites; compellin...

Unfortunately it seems like the watch media is saturated with so-called "experts" who only cover a few mainstream brands and offer no real depth. I'll check out your suggestions!
