Horological Meandering

HI all and good day! what are the general opinions about CLERC watches??? is the c609 a real manufacture movement or "exclusively made" by an outside firm?

And according to their dreadful (navigation and tiny images) website, they use a modified ETA 2892 caliber. So, no it is not a manufacture caliber. IMO another marketed Swiss brand claiming a long history, founded in 1874 blah, blah, blah.... Sorry if I'm...

Magnus, I appreciate you coming to Gerald Clerc's defense and I appreciate the data that it is a family member running the business. The fact that Gerald Clerc is a great guy, has I'm afraid nothing to do with how I see this category of "Watch brand" I'm ... 

... however, before a watch manufacturer, or brand, can prove its steadiness in value and service, it has to be "new" for a time. You cannot generally dismiss a 20 years old job applicant for lack of experience, if you are searching a "fresh spirit". Cler... 

On the website it says Clerc was founded in 1874. I am just wondering why I can't seem to find any vintage Clerc watches ? Did they have a different name back then? Thanks, Dean

I can't seem to find any Clerc watch from the 19th or 20th Century which strikes me as rather odd given their claimed founding date. I remember seeing Clerc watches appear I guess in the early 2000's. Would love to put the record straight as their website... 

its because they started as a jeweller? I think to recall this piece of information, and I have two images of this early 19th century bracelet box on my hard drive. Hope this helps, Magnus ...  

I did find some small pictures on their website that seem to lend credence to their claim, including a storefront sign, C.Clerc and some pictures of watches that look like they were from the 1970's. Thanks, Dean

they differentiate themselves primarily on the basis of their designs (unique case and associated features) and still being managed by a family member (gerald clerc). happy watch hunting! kyle
