A self-winding movement can hardly be as thin as a manual-winding one, especially if it features a central rotor . However, Audemars Piguet 's automatic caliber 2121 is only 3.05 mm thick . It is here featured in the Royal Oak , ref. 15202ST.OO.1240ST.01....

What an iconic movement. I’d be curious why, to the best of my knowledge, manufacturers stopped using it? My Jubilee RO Oak 14802 used the 2121 and it is so elegant. Amd great photos, Emmanuel! Who is Penny?

Sorry quattro but I cannot agree with what you are saying about the history of the Vacheron Constantin 1003, Audemars Piguet 2003 and the JLC 803.
All of these three movements are in fact an evolution of the Frederic Piguet Calibre 21 and all arrived in 1946 some 21 years after the FP Calibre 21 arrived in 1925 which is no surprise as the patents only last 20 years. These movements share the dimensi...
