it's not the only parameter.
In fact, our feelings about the size of the watch are influenced by :
the thickness of the bezel
the case shape
the design of the watch
the lugs
the materials
etc...
A perfectly designed 42/44mm watch can appear to be more balanced than a 38/40mm watch.
