Omega METAS

DOUBLE CERTIFICATION:
METAS AND COSC
To own a MASTER CHRONOMETER is to be confident that your watch has been certified not once – but twice! The 8 stringent METAS tests your timepiece must face to earn the title MASTER CHRONOMETER can only begin with movements already certified by COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute). And it's a completely transparent testing process. If you want to know how your own watch performed during the 8 METAS tests, you can view the results by entering your certificate number online.

1 operation of the movement alone during magnetic exposure is normal

2 operation of the movement in the watch case during magnetic exposure is normal

3 chronometric performance is confirmed during 2 days of testing (in conjunction with step 4)

4 tested over 4 days in 2 temperatures, 6 positions and 2 magnet fields

5 additional timing tests changing through 6 positions with a turn every 60 seconds

6 tested in six positions both at 100% winding and at 33% power reserve

7 the watches are wound to 100% and allowed to run down to ensure the autonomy (running time) is as specified and it keeps time throughout

8 watches are placed in water and pressurized as high as 150 bar (2200 psi) depends on model, then heated to 50°C (122°F) then cold water is dropped on the crystal - if condensation occurs the watch fails

When OMEGA introduced its METAS-approved testing in 2015, the Globemaster was the first watch to be tested. Since then, the brand has subjected more and more of its mechanical timepieces to the stringent 10-day process.
