I share your view on the desirability of Longines and I think the brand with its great heritage and history is undervalued.
However, Swatch Group as the owner seems to pursue a strategy of positioning Longines more upscale and thus the prices have gone up significantly. While Seiko has become pricier too, their entry point for most of the collection remains far below Longines.
Not every watch lover can afford to start the hobby with this Swiss brand….

They really can come up with where the market ask for. I found always that the maison is a very good entry for new watch lovers. Many start with Seiko, but hey, Longines is far more original and classy. Stronger said, start with Longines and you are ready...
