Horological Meandering

Moki‘s stainless steel bracelet from the Philippines

Dear Cazalea,
my wife and myself are currently spending our vacation in California and are staying with friends in the Sacramento area before heading south.
Our friend retired as a Colonel from U.S. Army after serving in different joint operations and programmes.
We were talking this and that when I showed him your excellent posts about SEALs and their watches.
When he saw the picture of the custom stainless steel bracelet that Moki and his comrades had themselves made on the Philippines, he remarked that the jump wings „medal“ Moki has on his bracelet shows Army jump wings and not Navy ones as one would expect from a SEAL. I could not tell the difference and he explained to me that Navy wings were straight ones while Army wings were curved upwards like on the bracelet.
Now we are wondering what the story behind this might be. The most obvious explanation would be restrictions of available space.
Do you happen to know the background behind the artist using Army wings?
Thanks a lot and best,
Martin
