Inevitable
Right now watch is a accessory, nobody really needs one, it's a fashion statement/status symbol/mechanical wonder for the boy inside our heart. That's not what Apple watch is about, they are aiming to making it a necessity.
They want it to replace your keys, credit cards, measure your vital signs (although Apple admitted the sensor technologies are not quite there yet) and give realtime feedback, new interaction with people, and god knows what else they can come up with.
However, until a truly killer application for smartwatches appears (and that maybe several generations later), at this very moment many people still don't see the point of smartwatches 1.0, which is understandable.
I will buy one when it is on sale, but even I have to admit, it's not a necessity yet.
