Horological Meandering

Just wondering what your thoughts are... If you we're elected into public office, lets say a Ministerial position, or an embassy diplomat, or such, would you stop wearing your expensive timepieces and be like Obama, or would you blatantly continue to wear... 

. . . to wear an RGM or Devon, but would most likely would default to vintage Omegas for their unassuming elegance and simplicity. Art

Not sure what people would think of a politician or public official wearing a Devon Tread ;)

... maybe an X-33 or a Speedmaster, given Omega's history with the space program.

I think the Speedmaster might be innappropriate in that it has a busy dial. Perhaps presidents should stick to simple 3 hand watches?

I would sacrifice myself and wear Glashütte watches! A lot of politicians wear Nomos, for example. One could also wear a GO I assume. Best Andreas

I wouldn't call wearing a GO a sacrifice. Be a good choice though. But would you wear a Rose Gold Senator? Probably not.

But wouldn't wearing the appropriate watch be considered a sign of weakness/power ? I suspect a politician could get away with wearing an unassuming JLC, Omega, Zenith, but definitely not a Rolex, Patek, AL&S, AP, VC. Thanks

And the good thing is that I love all kind of watches, from the less expensive to the most expensive. Therefore, there are few chances that the people I will meet know anything about watches. ;) Best, Nicolas

In France, I expect you could get chastised for wearing an innappropriate watch. Would you wear your Memovoxes if you were President of France? I don't think a JLC is too innappropriate, but more a showing of a good sense of style. I am thinking public of... 

Playing low profile, when you are in charge of your country, would be smarter, indeed. In a normal period, why not? If it is a Watch which shows your taste. The cost is very subjective. You can get most of the watches for 50 % off the retail. So, the budg...

I think there is a distinction between European Royalty and the politicians we are talking about here. No politician in any country could really get away with driving a Ferrari to work unless he was a dictator in his country. European royalty are expected... 

If I were in public office or not... Bulova Accutron (the real tuning fork models) first, then a choice Hamilton Electric (Ventura, please). Gruen and Elgin would be next. No need to hide these for the sake of being PC.

Even if it would cost me votes, I'd still wear my Swiss watches. I think it's ridiculous of US politicians to wear black plastic Casio's and Seiko's whenever they are on TV. That's just plain stupid but whatever gets them votes right? Lame... I guess this... 

Politicians work hard (well most do), so why can't they wear what they want, so long as it isn't a gem studded Rolex, at which point I would question their sanity ! Thanks D

...custom logo watch! The one given to him by the Secret Service was one that was done by company that prints your logo on the dial and slaps in onto a generic quartz watch. I did a catalog and airline magazine ads for one of these companies. Back in the ...

Given the current image of all politicians, and I mean no exceptions, here in Brazil, I believe that I go without any watch. Otherwise, even with my trusty Casio 5600, I may return with my wrist ... empty. Cheers, Nilo
